Watch the video for a brief tutorial on Single Point Perspective:
METHOD:
STEP 1
Mark the Vanishing Point between the top and middle half of the page. This is usually shown as the letter X.
STEP 3 Draw the horizontal and vertical lines which will turn your square into a cube.
|
STEP 2
Draw a square and bring the three corners (as shown above) up to meet the Vanishing Point. Draw very faint lines when you are doing this as some of them will be removed later.
STEP 4 Draw over the outline of your cube using a black pen. This will make the drawing stand out.
|
Remember to label your drawings. Include the length, breadth and height (known as dimensions) of the shape and the Vanishing Point. This is called Annotation.

Exercise 1:
A simple exercise to do when using Single Point Perspective is drawing different letters of the alphabet. Some letters should be more simple to do than others.
The letters L and T are two of the easiest to create a single point perspective for. As you can see they have not yet been made into 3-Dimensional shapes. Try these two letters for yourself on paper remembering to make the letters 3-Dimensional and outlined with a black pen. |
Exercise 2:
Time to try another two letters:
The letter H is also basic as it is made up of straight edges. The letter J may appear to be more difficult as it has curves, but it is not as difficult as it seems. |
